HybriSil
HybriSil is a product unlike any other. HybriSil has taken the clinical research of cosmetic companies and medical science and combined them together. By using both steroids and silicone as its main ingredients, HybriSil strives to create an at-home product with the efficiency of a physician’s application.
HybriSil claims to reduce scars’ appearance, soften scars, prevent future scars, strengthen skin, diminish scar discoloration, reduce redness, and shrink scars. Both silicone and steroids have been proven to work separately and when administered by a physician, but HybriSil has attempted to do something new. This product is available only by physician prescription and can be used on all skin types. HybriSil specifically notes its ability to treat all kinds of skin even ethnic skin.
HybriSil comes in an easy to apply gel form that dries quickly and does not conflict with make-up application. HybriSil can also be used with sunscreen.
Over ninety-seven percent of HybriSil is composed of silicone. Silicone has been shown to reduce the look of scars when applied directly. HybriSil attempts to use this theory. Steroids have also been used by physicians to minimize scars, though only applied in injectable formats. HybriSil uses a one percent form of methylprednisolone acetate, which is a corticosteroid with a mid-potency.
These ingredients combined are said to soothe skin while reducing inflammation.
HybriSil comes with several side effects, including skin atrophy, skin maceration, burning, itching, melasma, hypoglycemia, acne-form eruptions, hypertricosis, secondary infection, allergic contract dermatitis, striae, dryness, perioral dermatitis, and folliculitis.
This product is also not recommended for children and those who are pregnant or nursing, due to its composition of steroids.
The combining of steroids and silicone together has yet to be proven effective, as well as how the steroid is applied. The side effects of HybriSil are a huge negative it its use, along with the necessity for a prescription for purchase. At this point because not all the ingredients in HybriSil are listed, it is yet to be determined if HybriSil works as advertised.
